There are thirteen teams in total (for the moment, this will be the set amount. Should the necessity for more arise, further teams will be set up).
Some have canon characters and some don't. Other than the elite team of SG-1, these positions are entirely flexible so you can apply for a position even there is a canon already in place for the taking, provided it's not been taken by someone wanting the canon.
Again, if it has a link to an application, then it has been taken. If it has not got a link, then it is open for the taking. Also, a suggested rank for each position will also be in place. This is to help establish the pecking order. It's not set in stone so there is leeway for you to be a little higher or a little lower than the set rank but the rank at the top is the highest. We would appreciate no doubles of the highest rank in that team, with SG-1 being the only exception. Anything with [CO] next to it means that is the teams Commanding Officer.
You will also find titles in italics alongside the team name.
Most SG Teams are standard re-con but some are specialised. Regarding these specialised teams, it's essential that the character you make is well suited to the speciality. Each SG team is usually made of four individuals with the exception of SG-1. We would like to keep each team to four.
Also, in regard to promotions... they are given by admin. Do not ask for your character to be promoted, as that won't happen.
If you need to be assigned to a team, you will need to state so in your character application form in the 'Position' field heading. If you're not bothered about which team you're in, you shall be automatically assigned to a random team. If you wish for a certain team placement, do say so in your application!
